The zisha gaiwan is made by Yu, a free potter based in Jingdezhen (check here to learn more about Yu).
It features the smoky red surface , formed with zini (purple-red-brown clay mined from Yixing) primarily and coated with yet refined reddish clay (Hongqingshui ), making the gaiwan feel coarse in hand, while the inside is finished with glossy black glaze, providing the textural and visual contrast. The overall design and double layers of zisha clay give the gaiwan a contemporary touch, presenting a perfect marriage of tradition and modernity.
Each gaiwan holds approximately 140ml of liquid. Pinched out slightly, the rim is extremely thin and easy to pour out the tea, and thin enough to prevent the fingers from the heat as well.
