The wood-fired galaxy teapot is handmade by a skilled potter Wu in Jindezhen who has thrown potteries for 27 years since his young apprenticeship. Looking through his wood-fired potteries , we are impressed by the uncommon appearance of his work of art which reflects fully his bumble personality and endless effort in extending the range of wood-fired possibilities .
The galaxy teapot is made of gaoling clay which is originally mined in Jindezhen. Gaoling clay features the ability to withstand high temperature over 1500℃. The bluish-violet color is created by atmospheric turbulence while the ash of wood is dusting the surface of pot during 3-days-and-nights of wood-firing in kiln . The surface mainly presents as if the glossy dark-purple galaxy cross the sky with twinkling stars, which provides a nice visual and textural contrast. There are emerald-like and orange drips decorating the matte blue body so as to enrich the hue based on subtle colors.
The teapot has capacity to hold 150 ml liquid roughly. At least 50 holes filter strains the tea in the spout which ensures a smooth pour. As the teapot is formed after over 1300℃ firing. Eventhough the lid is not as fitting as zisha teapot , it wont affect on use for normal tea brew.
Please pay attention that as the teapot is not glazed on the inside , we suggest the user of the teapot devote it to a kind of tea for better “nourishing”. Therefore the taste of tea will be improved gradually after long-term brewing the same tea in the teapot. For these reasons, it shall not be washed using detergents, but rather water only.
