The fair cup is made by a skilled potter based in Jingdezhen, one of the most important pottery centres in China.
It is characterized by the irregular shape with an elaborate arched side-handle. A string of matte greenish-grey flows from the rim to the bottom like a river across the green-glazed body, which is created by the ash of wood to dust the surface in the kiln. With some faint crackles in the glossy surface, the fair cup has a lovely gradation of colours from dark green to yellow.
The fair cup holds approximately 230 ml of liquid which offers a large capacity for tea in a versatile way. Comparing with normal serving volume 180ml -200ml, it is recommended to fit with a large teapot or to be used for serving lots of drinkers in tea ceremony more than solo tea-brewing. The well-crafted side-handle is slim and provides pleasure to hold and pour tea with in addition to preventing the hand from heat as well.
