The gourd-shaped zisha teapot is made by Yu, a free potter based in Jingdezhen (check here to learn more about Yu).
It features the smoky red surface, formed with zini (purple-red-brown clay mined from Yixing) primarily and coated with yet refined reddish clay (Hongqingshui ) , making the teapot feel coarse in hand, providing the textural and visual contrast. The overall design and double layers of zisha clay give the teapot a stylish and elegant appearance, allowing it to stand out from the currently overwhelming zisha teapots in the market.
The teapot holds 100ml of liquid with a multi-holes ball filter, making it suitable for a small or middle tea session, especially for solo tea brewing. Expertly connected into the body of the pot, the spout is able to embrace smooth pour and sharp stop of pour without drips. As the teapot is formed by throwing instead of slab-building like most Yixing zisha teapots, it has a more porous texture, allowing it to absorb tea and create patina more quickly.
Please note the teapot is not glazed on the inside, we suggest the user of the teapot devote it to a kind of tea for better “nourishing”. As the Zisha helps to retain heat well and facilitate the pleasing compounds released from the tea leaf, the taste of tea will be improved gradually after long-term brewing the same tea in the teapot. For these reasons, it shall not be washed using detergents, but rather water only.
