The gaiwan is made by Mupu Studio (check here to learn about Mupu)run by a couple in Jingdezheng. Mupu’s pottery is known for unique marine blue surface , which is blended by himself and appears rare in the market.
The gaiwan is made of ceramic with a blended glaze ,coloring the gaiwan light blue with a mottled effect and dark blue area where the glaze gathers and drops providing textural touch . Slight matte brown speckles are grouped over the blue on the inside , which are brought about by the different thickness of glaze in the gas kiln .
The rim of Gaiwan is extremely thin and extended wide enough to prevent hands from burning for hot tea, making it an excellent starter gaiwan for any tea drinker.
It holds approximately 140ml of liquid which is practical for both solo and sharing tea ceremony. As the gaiwan is glazed on the inside , it is applicable to all kinds of tea. We offer flower-shaped teacups (check here to buy the cups) together with the gaiwan if you are keen for a set, and please refer to the photos for more details.
