The gaiwan is made by potter Zhang base in Jindezhen, one of influential pottery center in the world. Zhang refuses to follow the tradition slavishly ,but have tried to reformed the teaware in breathtakingly creative ways. He connects traditional eastern elements, like mountain, lucky cloud, bird, stream with original craftsmanship which is characterised by handmade relief on the surface of the potteries.

The gaiwan is made with black glaze, coloring the gaiwan glossy black and matte black with mottled effect depending on where in the kiln it was positioned. It is textured with snow flakes pattern on the surface of metallic black, and the white sea waves motif embossed at the bottom of body as well we lid, providing visual and textural contrast. The interior is applied with transparent celadon liner glaze with faint concentric circles manifesting the marks of throwing.

The gaiwan holds 140m of liquid roughly featuring thick and strong body which helps to retain the heat well and prevents it from being broken easily, which is ideal for using during travel. As the rim is higher enough than where the lid covers the body , the gaiwan definitely can prevent the hands from heat which we highly recommend to a new tea drinker starting to use gaiwan. As the interior is glazed, all teas are available for brewing in this gaiwan.
