The soda woodfired houhin is made by soda woodfiring expert ,Mupu studio (check here to learn about Mupu).
The houhin is made of unglazed ceramic with dull black iron spots throughout. It features a significant speckled effect of brown dots on glossy light grey which result from the interaction with ash, flame and soda ,feeling rough on the brown while smooth on the grey, offering a lovely visual and textural contrast.
The rim of houhin is higher enough than the edge of the lid to prevent hands from burning for hot tea, making it an excellent option for those who are not good at brewing tea with a gaiwan. It holds approximately 150ml of liquid and has jagged filter making pour smooth in large volume.
Please pay attention that as the houhin is not glazed on the inside , we suggest the user of the teapot devote it to a kind of tea for better “nourishing”. Therefore the taste of tea will be improved gradually after long-term brewing the same tea in the teapot. For these reasons, it shall not be washed using detergents, but rather water only.
