Made of the rough dark clay, the houhin feels bumpy and uneven with black iron spots throughout. Speckled with multiple white grains of sand on closer inspection, the houhin is stunning with the glossy metallic surface speckled was a result of an interaction with flame, soda and ash during a few days straight of woodfiring.
The rim of houhin is higher enough than the edge of the lid to prevent hands from burning for hot tea, making it an excellent option for those who are not good at brewing tea with a gaiwan. It holds approximately 150ml of liquid and has jagged filter making pour smooth in large volume.
Please pay attention that as the houhin is not glazed on the inside , we suggest the user of the teapot devote it to a kind of tea for better “nourishing”. Therefore the taste of tea will be improved gradually after long-term brewing the same tea in the teapot. For these reasons, it shall not be washed using detergents, but rather water only.
