The gaiwan is made by a accomplished potter called Longtao Li in Jingdezheng. Li’s pottery is known for unique marine blue surface , which is blended by himself and appears rare in the market. What is more , his workmanship has been gradually improved and thrived during long-term adventure of soda firing.
The gaiwan is made with a blended glaze ,coloring the gaiwan matte blue with a mottled effect and dark blue area where the glaze gathers and drops providing textural touch . Slight matte gold drips are presented over the blue at the both sides of the spout and patches of brown rounded under the drips, which are brought about by the different thickness of glaze in the gas kiln .
The rim of Gaiwan is higher enough to prevent hands from burning for hot tea, making it an excellent starter gaiwan for any tea drinker. It holds approximately 150ml of liquid and has jagged filter making pour smooth in large volume.
Please pay attention that as the gaiwam is not glazed on the inside , we suggest the user of the teapot devote it to a kind of tea for better “nourishing”. Therefore the taste of tea will be improved gradually after long-term brewing the same tea in the teapot. For these reasons, it shall not be washed using detergents, but rather water only.
